Before I go on, I must admit that I did not quit the first time trying but I only did on the 3rd attempt (as there are some help). During all these trial and error I manage to pick a few common mistakes that people made while trying to quit. And I had the honor of helping my friends and loved ones around me to quit which assisted me to realize more mistakes that people made. Below are some of the preparations on how to quit smoking cold turkey method.
First of all, know the “real” reason why you are deciding to quit. I often get people who want to quit telling me they quit because of their parents, their wife, their children, their this and their that is nagging at them. Or reason like for my family, for my children, for my loved ones and etc.
We human are driven by pain and pleasure. Unless things like “if I don’t quit now my son is going to suffer of having asthma attack”, this is the PAIN people avoid or try to avoid. Or things like “by quitting smoking now I increase the chance of having children”, this is the PLEASURE people tends to look forward to. I hope you get what I mean.
Finding a real reason also helps to stay smoke free forever. During my 1st attempt to quit I used cold turkey method as well. I was puffing away only after a month of quitting. The difference I notice is that on the 3rd attempt I had stronger reason and used the same reason to refrain from smoking.
The pain of cold turkey also plays a part for me to refrain from smoking. If you have gone through the “pain” of the withdrawal symptoms what are the chances that you would like to go through it again? This “pain” acts as the double strong point on top of the real reason to stop smoking forever.
For me, it is the reason and “pain” that got me years without smoking. In this post I have highlighted some important points and I will be going into details on the post.
